Cassie Falvey Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser

A memorial fundraiser in honor of the late Cassie Falvey, an exceptional teacher who sadly passed in June 2021.

Music by The John Spignesi Band + Raffle with prizes from Mohegan Sun, the Hartford Yard Goats, Supercharged, and The Garde Arts Center!

As someone who worked in the New London Public School system for years, she believed in building community. More importantly, she believed in the potential of the youth of New London.

She spent her life giving to the youth of the city, and the Cassie Falvey Memorial Scholarship aims to continue extending the opportunity she wanted for all her students.

The scholarship is presented by family and friends of Cassie Falvey and awarded to an English Learner who is looking to continue their education at a college or university this fall.

In May, our third time awarding the Cassie Falvey Memorial Scholarship, we were able to award over $1,300 to a deserving student. This year we have the goal of growing the scholarship and making awards to multiple students.

The event will include live music by the John Spignesi Band as well as a raffle. The John Spignesi Band is familiar around New London, having played at the Social, and is fronted by former New London teacher John Spignesi. The band has a loyal flock of fans throughout New England and is known for the positive atmosphere at their shows.

Twisted Pine w/ The Carleans

Twisted Pine w/ The Carleans

Come join us for an electrifying evening at The Social Bar + Kitchen! Twisted Pine will blow your mind with their unique fusion of bluegrass, funk and pop. Local favorites The Carleans will open the show!

Praised by NPR for their "upbeat, poppy vibe; energetic, driving rhythms; and virtuosic solos,” Twisted Pine released their sophomore full-length Right Now in 2020 (Signature Sounds Recordings). Exploring a sound they call Americana funk, Twisted Pine takes traditional music in exhilarating directions. Bassist Chris Sartori writes, "This album is easier to feel than describe. We’re rooted in bluegrass, continually inspired by explorers like Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, and Sierra Hull. Right Now takes this heritage into a new dimension. Our bluegrass is jazzy, our indie folk is poppy, our grooves are funky."Twisted Pine [Kathleen Parks, fiddle; Dan Bui, mandolin; Chris Sartori, bass; Anh Phung, flute] grooves with fearless improvisation and intricate arrangements. "They were once bluegrass," wrote The Boston Globe, "but ... this Boston band has become something else, a wider version of string band, boundary jumpers akin to outfits like Punch Brothers, Nickel Creek, and Crooked Still.”

"An upbeat, poppy vibe; energetic, driving rhythms; virtuosic solos; tight harmonies. This is definitely a band to watch" — National Public Radio

“Instrumental virtuosity — the band’s calling card — abounds on their latest album, Right Now, but so too do moments of sheer pop glory, funky all-day grooves, and spacecraft sonics.” — No Depression

"So grooving, and low volume! " — Vulfpeck

Whether you're a fan of bluegrass or just looking for a fun night out, this is the event for you! So gather your friends and head over to The Social Bar + Kitchen for an unforgettable night of foot-stomping melodies and good vibes. Don't miss out on this one-of-a-kind experience!

Alewife Cove Conservancy's 1st Annual Social w/ Roberto Morbioli & Dave Fields

We’re excited to host Alewife Cove Conservancy’s first ever Social @ The Social with two legendary Blues players - Roberto Morbioli (from Italy) and Dave Fields (from NYC) sharing the stage for the first time ever!

Show begins at 8:00pm // $10 cover at the door

Roberto Morbioli

He can breathe fire from his axe like a young Clapton or Stevie Ray. Crowded, noisy bars hush a bit when he steps up and folks look around to see who this is making such a holy wail. His personality and unique playing style shine through all his interpretations so much that, even while recalling the styles of blues greats such as Freddy King, Albert King, B.B. King, Albert Collins, T-Bone Walker, you see and hear that every note is coming straight from the heart. And it’s so infectious that you’re caught up in it before you realize what’s happening.

His guitar playing is nothing short of magic, and as a singer, his powerful voice recalls Sam Cook, Otis Redding, Robert Cray and Donny Hathaway. You don’t even think about it, you just know that the blues flow so naturally for Rob, and his guitar playing and vocals are so polished, he sounds as if he grew up closer to Chicago than Verona, Italy.

Rob was born in Verona, Italy and picked up the guitar when he was very young. He has played at some of the biggest European festivals like the Amsterdam Blues Festival, New Orleans Music Festival in Ascona and San Remo Blues Festival.

In 1991 he founded his own band MORBLUS which brought him critical recognition and awards. Since then, he has collaborated with many important artists such as Guitar Shorty, Jesse Yawn, Robben Ford, Roomful of Blues and Big Daddy Wilson.

In the USA, he has performed at B.B. King’s Blues club in Memphis, and Antone’s in Austin, Texas, the North Atlantic Blues Festival in Rockland, Maine and regularly tours in New England. Since 2011 he has been granted consecutive US working visas as an artist of extraordinary ability.

His albums „Acoustic Me“ (2016) and „From Scratch“ (2018) were awarded with Akademia Awards for Best Album.

Dave Fields

NY Blues Hall of Famer and Fodera Guitar artist Dave Fields 6th and latest album Force of Will is ferocious mix of blues rock and beyond that stretches the boundaries. Force of Will will take you on a musical journey in a way that only Dave Fields can take you. Force of Will, like all of Dave’s albums, is a dynamic excursion of love, fun, joy and life which will please the blues-rock lover and beyond.

Dave’s list of recording session, record dates, jingles and TV commercials are an impressive list including works with Aretha Franklin, U2, IBM, Publishers Clearing House to name a few. He cut his teeth at the legendary NYC music house LOOK music which led Dave to create his own music company: Fields Music. His gift of making his guitar talk combined with his uncanny way of weaving many different styles of music together is an example of how we as humans are a tapestry of many different cultures and walks of life.

Dave Fields performs all over the US and the world. He is currently #1 on the ReverbNation blues charts in NYC. His awards include: Best Self Produced CD 2006 at the IBC, 2009-2010 Mojo Boogie Award, 2012 international blues magazine Big City Blues Happy To Have The Blues Lifetime Achievement Award. Legendary British bluesman John Mayall recorded one of Dave’s songs, “Train to My Heart” on his album “TOUGH”. Dave’s album’s TIME’S A WASTIN’, ALL WOUND UP, DETONATION (produced by legendary Grammy award winning producer David Z), ALL IN #1 RMR top 50 blues charts and UNLEASHED have all garnered international acclaim. Dave is overseas regularly with tours in Europe.

Dave Fields live is an electrifying experience. His soulful singing is punctuated with a performance of guitar virtuosity, blues, rock and beyond. His song writing stylings will keep you reeling as well as his power as an entertainer. Each performance is unique unto themselves and is a scintillating, mind bending and uplifting.

“When I first heard him I knew he had something special. When Dave plays he plays with such passion.” -Blues Hall Of Famer, Hubert Sumlin

“…an enjoyable listen for both blues acolytes and casual club jumpers … an exhilarating concert experience if you ever get a chance to see Fields live.” - Guitar Player Magazine

“Fields stand apart as a flamboyant entertainer.” - Downbeat Magazine

There is a $10 cover for this event. Please be prepared to pay the cover before you are seated.
